This Chapter, By Design: Why We’re Talking About What Comes Next

Most conversations about midlife are framed around loss—of youth, relevance, or momentum. That framing doesn’t match reality for many Black and Brown adults over 50 who are still thinking, building, traveling, creating, and deciding what they want next.

This blog exists to support a different narrative.

This Chapter, By Design is not about rushing reinvention or chasing someone else’s version of success. It’s about clarity, choice, and intentional design across the areas of life that matter most—health, purpose, travel, relationships, finances, creativity, legacy, and home.

Each week, this blog will cycle through one of the ten life areas featured in the book. Some posts will be practical. Others reflective. Many will sit at the intersection of lived experience and research-backed insight. All are written for people who have spent decades being responsible—and are now asking what it looks like to be responsible to themselves.

This space is especially for those navigating:

  • Career transitions, layoffs, or retirement shifts
  • Travel and relocation decisions later in life
  • Questions of purpose without burnout or hustle culture
  • Health, wellness, and mobility in real bodies—not idealized ones
  • Relationships, community, and legacy beyond traditional scripts

You won’t find urgency here. You won’t find “10 hacks to reinvent your life.”
You will find thoughtful prompts, grounded checklists, and perspectives designed to help you make decisions with confidence and dignity.

We’ll begin where most journeys begin: health—specifically, what it means to care for yourself well while traveling, exploring, or living beyond familiar routines.

Because freedom without preparation isn’t freedom at all.
